The San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies will meet in the finale of their three game set from Coors Field on Wednesday.
The San Francisco Giants will look to avoid the sweep after dropping game two by a final score of 9-6 on Tuesday, giving San Fran their 13th loss in their last 17 games. Denard Span and Buster Posey each had a pair of base hits with a double and two RBIs, while Joe Panik went 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI of his own. Brandon Crawford added run on the board, while Mac Williamson went 2 for 2 in a pinch-hit role and Ryder Jones chipped in a base knock of his own in the winning effort. Ty Blach took the loss, falling to 8-12 this season after giving up five runs on five hits while walking and striking out a pair each over 5.1 innings of work. Johnny Cueto will start the finale and is 6-7 with a 4.54 ERA and 105 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cueto is 8-3 with a 2.71 ERA and 77 strikeouts against Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies will look to complete the sweep after taking game two on Tuesday. Trevor Story hit a solo homer, while DJ LeMahieu, Nolan Arenado, Mark Reynolds, Ian Desmond and Carlos Gonzalez all logged a double and an RBI. Jonathan Lucroy also managed to go 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own in the winning effort for the Rockies. Tyler Chatwood threw three innings of four hit shutout baseball, striking out and walking three a piece, not factoring in the decision. Chris Rusin got the win to improve to 4-0 this season, while Greg Holland closed the door in the 9th for his 37th save of the campaign. Kyle Freeland will start the finale and is 11-9 with a 3.89 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season. In his career, Freeland is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA and 8 strikeouts against San Francisco.
San Francisco is 19-7 in Cueto’s last 26 division starts and 22-50 in their last 72 road games while the under is 10-3-1 in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record. Colorado is 5-13 in their last 18 division matchups and 2-5 in Freeland’s last 7 game 3 starts while the under is 20-6 in their last 26 games overall. San Francisco is 5-1 in Cueto’s last 6 starts against Colorado, but just 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Colorado.
Normally, in years past, if you got Johnny Cueto with pus money, you take it and run. But even though Cueto has had career success against Colorado, and looked decent in his return from the DL, the Giants are still one of the worst teams in baseball and find ways to lose ona regular basis. Colorado hasn’t been playing much better since the all-star break, but they seem to have a fire lit underneath their butts after watching teams like Milwaukee and St. Louis make up some serious ground in the wild card race. I like Freeland to keep things going and get the Rockies the sweep on Wednesday.
