MLB baseball comes to PNC Park when the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
The Chicago Cubs are looking to lock up the National League Central and begin preparation for the playoffs. The Cubs had won six straight but have hit a bit of a rough patch with three consecutive defeats following a 4-3 defeat at Pittsburgh on Tuesday where the pen coughed up a late lead. Cubbies starter Kyle Hendricks allowed a pair of runs on five hits over 6.2 frames before Carl Edwards blew the save with two runs scoring in the 8th on three hits and two walks. The Chicago offense produced eight hits and two bases on balls with Ian Happ driving in a pair of runs while Ben Zobrist cracked a sacrifice fly. Left hander Jose Quintana has been tabbed by the Chicago Cubs to start at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Quintana defeated the Pirates 17-3 last time out with all three runs scoring on four hits and no walks over six innings of work.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are still holding out hope of securing a playoff spot but the odds are not in their favor. The Pirates have been doing their part lately with four consecutive victories following Tuesday night’s win versus the division leading Cubs. Buccos starter Steven Brault hung tough with all three runs plated on eight hits and a pair of free passes before Wade LeBlanc shut the door with three hitless frames. Pittsburgh did their damage on eight hits and two bases on balls with Jordan Luplow clubbing a two run homer while David Frees and Max Moroff both scored and recorded RBI’s. Gerrit Cole toes the rubber for the Pittsburgh Pirates versus the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Cole comes off of a 7-3 defeat at the hands of the visiting Cincinnati Reds where he gave up five runs on six hits and a trio if BB over six frames.
The over is 7-2 in Chicago last 9 Wednesday games and Chicago are 6-2 in their last 8 overall while Chicago are 6-2 in their last 8 Wednesday games. The under is 8-3 in Pittsburgh last 11 Wednesday starts. Pittsburgh are 10-4 in Cole’s last 14 starts versus Chicago.
The Pirates have been tough on the Cubs and with Cole as a nice dog at home I think the value is with the Pirates…
