The Tampa Bay Rays host the Minnesota Twins in a Wednesday afternoon MLB baseball tilt.
The Minnesota Twins are one of the top squads in Wild Card contention but need to begin another hot streak. The hot streak will have to begin another day with the Twins suffering a 2-1 defeat at Tampa Bay that saddled the team with losses in four of five. The offense stalled and that wasted a strong performance on the mound from Bartolo Colon who gave up both runs on five hits and a base on balls over 6.2 frames. The Minnesota attack consisted of four hits and a pair of walks with Robbie Grossman slugging his 8th long ball in the 9th while Joe Mauer and Eddie Rosario posted a hit and a walk. The Minnesota Twins are recalling Aaron Slegers from the minors to make his second career start versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Slegers did not get a decision in a 4-2 win versus the Cleveland Indians in mid August with both runs scoring in 6.1 innings.

The Tampa Bay Rays are still trying to regroup from a long swoon that dropped the team from a Wild Card to 4th in the American League East. The Rays are hoping they have one last run left after Tuesday night’s win gave the team back to back victories. The TB offense didn’t do a lot but didn’t need to with starter Jake Odorizzi tossing a one hitter through 6.2 innings to up his record to 8-7 before Alex Colome surrendered a 9th inning solo homer. Tampa Bay mustered six hits and a walk with Lucas Duda supplying the offense on a 2-3 night with a homer and a pair of RBI’s. The Tampa Bay Rays send a surging Blake Snell to the bump to oppose the visiting Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Snell comes in off of a 3-1 win at the Chicago White Sox where he allowed an unearned run on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings of work.
The over is 13-3 in Minnesota last 16 on astroturf and the under is 8-2 in Minnesota last 10 Wednesday games. The under is 15-6 in Tampa Bay last 21 on astroturf and the under is 12-5 in Tampa Bay last 17 home games while the under is 21-10 in Tampa Bay last 31 overall. The over is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings in Tampa Bay and the over is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings.
I’d be lying if I said I had any idea what we’ll see from Slegers which makes him the Wild Card. All I know is Minnesota really needs a win…
