The Detroit Tigers pay a visit to the Toronto Blue Jays in a Friday MLB baseball matchup.

The Detroit Tigers goal coming in to this season was for a return to glory when the team ruled the American League Central. The Tigers instead have struggled and need numerous changes to the roster to turn things around for 2018. The Tigers are entering the weekend with losses in seven of ten after a 13-2 defeat at the hands of the visiting Kansas City Royals. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd allowed four runs on seven hits and a pair of BB before the pen was charged with nine runs with Joe Jimenez giving up five runs in 1/3 of an inning. The Tigers posted ten hits and walked three times with Ian Kinsler going solo while James McCann singled inJohn Hicks.  The Detroit Tigers open the series at the Toronto Blue Jays with Buck Farmer on the mound. The right hander comes off of a 10-0 defeat to the visiting Cleveland Indians with five runs allowed on three hits and three bases on balls over three innings of work.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Detroit Tigers - 9/8/17 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays have been in the spoiler role for awhile but the team has struggled in that role the past few weeks. In this span the Blue Jays have dropped seven of ten capped off by a 6-1 loss at the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The pitching and hitting both came up short with Jays starter Joe Biagini falling to 3-10 with five runs scoring on six hits and three free passes over 3.1 innings pitched. Toronto was held to four hits and three bases on balls with Miguel Montero driving in Ezequiel Carrera with the only run. The Toronto Blue Jays have named Marcus Stroman as the series opening starter versus the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Stroman has been a positive in a dismal season with an 11-6 record and 3.08 ERA over 28 starts where the team is 17-11.

The under is 7-2 in Detroit last 9 on astroturf and Detroit are 3-10 in their last 13 road games while Detroit are 8-23 in their last 31 overall. Toronto are 3-13 in their last 16 Friday games and the under is 11-3 in Toronto last 14 home games while Toronto are 5-14 in their last 19 overall. Detroit are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Toronto and the under is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings.

I think the only choice is the Blue Jays with Stroman who has been the most reliable pitcher the team has had. The bats have to give him some help and should produce…
