The Washington Nationals will look to build on their current four game winning streak after their win in game one on Thursday. Trea Turner led the team with two RBIs, while Matt Wieters went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI along with Alejandro De Aza who chipped in an RBI as well. Michael Taylor added a double while Adam Lind went 2 for 3 at the dish. Wilmer Difo, Daniel Murphy, Michael Taylor, Howie Kendrick and Rafael Bautista all contributed base hits in the win for the Nats. Tanner Roark got the win to improve to 12-9 this season, giving up all three runs on seven hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Brandon Kintzler and Ryan Madson set the table for Sean Doolittle to notch his 19th save of the year and 16th as a National. Max Scherzer will start this one and is 13-5 with a 2.19 ERA and 232 strikeouts this season. In his career, Scherzer is 8-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 101 strikeouts against Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is 0-4 in Thompson’s last 4 starts against a team with a winning record and 25-60 in their last 85 games against a right-handed starter while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Washington is 25-7 in Scherzer’s last 32 division starts and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games against a right-handed starter. Washington is 10-1 in Scherzer’s last 11 starts against Philadelphia.
The Price is steep with the Nats, but for good reason. Scherzer has owned Philly in his career, and the Nationals have done the same as a team with Scherzer on the bump. I’m a tad sketchy backing Washington on the run line as I haven’t had a ton of luck on the run line lately, but it’s the only way to get some value out of the bet.
