Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday, the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago White Sox will be continuing their MLB series.
In Friday’s opener, the Giants scored three times in the fourth and ninth innings on the way to a 9-2 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Saturday game, the Giants will be bringing out RHP Jeff Samardzija. In his 183.2 innings and 9-12 record this year, Samardzija has a 4.31 ERA with 184 Ks and 28 BBs.
San Francisco has a few notable hitters this year. Buster Posey came into this series with 137 hits, 55 runs, 12 homers and 59 RBI while Joe Panik had 127 hits, 50 runs, 10 homers and 48 RBI. Posey and Panik each had one hit and one run.
As for the White Sox, they’re relying on RHP James Shields for the start on Saturday. In his 91.1 innings and 2-6 record this year, Shields has a 5.72 ERA with 78 Ks and 44 BBs.
Chicago carries some noteworthy bats as well. Jose Abreu entered this set on 159 hits, 79 runs, 28 homers and 84 RBI while Avisail Garcia had 140 hits, 60 runs, 14 homers and 64 RBI. Garcia hd a two-run homer on Friday; Abreu had a hit and a run.
The Giants are 4-10 in their last 14 Saturday games and 0-5 in their last five during game two of a series. San Francisco is also 2-7 in Samardzija’s last nine Saturday starts and 6-2 in Samardzija’s last eight starts.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are 5-16 in their last 21 during game two of a series, and 1-7 in their last eight Saturday games. Chicago is also 3-8 in Shields’ last 11 starts and 0-6 in Sheilds’ last six Saturday starts.
Over his last three starts, Samardzija has been great, giving up just two earned on 11 hits in 22.0 innings during that time. As for Shields, he’s given up four earned in each of his last two starts on 11 total hits in 11.1 innings overall. I like Samardzija to keep it going here, and if the bats show up the Giants have a good opportunity for a win in this one.
