The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers conclude their series in a Sunday MLB bout.
The New York Yankees are still challenging the Red Sox for the lead in the American League East. The Yankees squeezed out a 3-1 victory at the Rangers on Saturday behind outstanding work on the mound and some late offense. Yanks starter Luis Severino allowed the lone run on a hit and three walks while striking out ten over seven frames. New York totaled nine hits and a pair of bases on balls with Chase Headley driving in two while Tyler Austin singled in a run as the Yankees scored once in the 8th and two in the 9th. The New York Yankees are scheduled to send Jordan Montgomery to the bump in the series finale’ at the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Montgomery comes off of a 7-4 loss at the Baltimore Orioles with three runs allowed on five hits including two homers in 4.2 frames.

The Texas Rangers are looking for a season ending hot streak that would put them in line for capturing a Wild Card. The Rangers Wild Card push took a step in the wrong direction with Saturday’s defeat that saw the bullpen squander a late lead and absorbing the loss. Texas starter Andrew Cashner was charged wit a run on four hits and walk through seven innings for a no decision while Alex Claudio gave up a pair of runs on four hits to get the loss. The Rangers were limited to a mere one hit and three free passes with Brett Nichols doubling in Will Middlebrooks who had walked. The Texas Rangers have named AL Griffin as Sunday’s starter versus the visiting New York Yankees. Griffin did not receive a decision in a 7-4 defeat versus the Los Angeles Angels with a pair of runs allowed on four hits and two BB over 5.2 frames.
The over is 7-0-2 in Texas last 9 on grass and the over is 8-1-3 in Texas last 12 overall while Texas are 11-4 in their last 15 home games. New York are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings.
I don’t think this is the best matchup on the mound which makes this more of a tossup then usual. With Griffin having some success versus New York I’ll go with the Rangers…
