The White Sox are coming off a series versus the Giants. The two teams split the first pair of games, then on Sunday the Sox bagged an 8-1 win.
USA TODAY Sports
On Monday, the Sox will be bringing out RHP Reynaldo Lopez. In his 22.1 innings and 0-3 record this year, Lopez has a 4.84 ERA with 21 Ks.
Chicago has a few interesting hitters this year. Jose Abreu came out of the week with 164 hits, 83 runs, 29 homers and 87 RBI while Avisail Garcia had 142 hits, 62 runs, 16 homers and 67 RBI. Abreu ripped two home runs on Sunday, and along with Garcia’s stats the duo put up four hits, three RBI and three runs.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re fresh off a set against the Twins. KC lost the first two games then won on Saturday. In the Sunday game, the Royals got a big 11-3 victory.
Kansas City will be bringing out RHP Jason Hammel on Monday. In his 161.2 innings and 8-10 record this year, Hammel has a 4.73 ERA with 125 Ks and 43 BBs.
The Royals have some solid bats as well. Eric Hosmer came out of the week with 171 hits, 85 runs, 24 homers and 84 RBI while Lorenzo Cain was sitting on 155 hits, 81 runs, 14 homers and 46 RBI. Hosmer had four hits with two runs and an RBI on Sunday; Cain had one hit.
The White Sox are 0-4 in their last four during game one of a series, and 9-24 in their last 33 versus the AL Central. The over is 6-2 in the Sox’ last eight Monday games and the under is 9-4 in Chicago’s last 13 versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 5-2 in Hammel’s last seven starts with four days’ rest, and 5-1 in Hammel’s last six starts versus the American League Central. The under is 4-1 in Hammel’s last five starts in game one of a series and the over is 5-1 in Hammel’s last six starts overall.
Hammel has been okay lately, just not stellar. He had a run of eight earned on 13 hits over 13.0 innings in two starts, then came back with a nice outing in Detroit on 6.0 innings, nine hits and two earned. I like Hammel to keep it going here, so I’ll take the Royals for the victory.
