The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants face off on Monday to kick off a three game set from AT&T Park on Monday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to snap a ten game losing streak after being swept by the Rockies, including an 8-1 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Alex Verdugo’s pinch-hit solo home run was the lone run on the board for the Dodgers, and L.A.’s only extra base hit in the loss. Andre Ethier went 2 for 2 at the dish while Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Austin Barnes, Curtis Granderson and Charlie Culberson each chipped in a base hit in the losing efforts. Rich Hill took the loss, falling to 9-8 this season after giving up a pair of runs on four hits while walking a pair and whiffing five over five innings of work. Kenta Maeda will start the opener and is 12-6 with a 4.02 ERA and 130 strikeouts this season. In his career, Maeda is 3-1 with a 4.58 ERA and 20 strikeouts against San Francisco.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco Giants come into this one looking to bounce back after being outscored in their final two games against the White Sox by a combined 21-2 score, including an 8-1 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Jarrett Parker’s solo blast was the lone run put on the board by the Giants in the loss, and San Fran’s lone extra base hit in the losing effort. Buster Posey went 2 for while Kelby Tomlinson and Mac Williamson chipped in base hits of their own in the loss. Madison Bumgarner took the loss, falling to 3-8 this season after giving up six runs on ten hits while striking out four over five innings of work. Chris Stratton will get the nod in game one and is 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stratton is 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA and 1 strikeout against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 1-11 in their last 12 games against a right-handed starter and 13-6 in Maeda’s last 19 starts while the over is 12-3 in their last 15 division matchups. San Francisco is 5-16 in their last 21 division matchups and 4-11 in their last 15 games overall while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 home games. Los Angeles is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Both of these teams have been god awful as of late, but you wouldn’t expect the Dodgers to be in that conversation. And while San Fran has been able to win at a more frequent clip as of late, the fact is the Dodgers have to more talented team from top to bottom, and Maeda is a lot more trustworthy that Stratton at this point. The Dodgers need to build some confidence heading into the playoffs and this is a good place to start so I’ll lay the juice with L.A.
