The Los Angeles Angels host the Houston Astros in an AL West MLB Tuesday matchup.
The Houston Astros were heading towards the American League West crown and still are. The Astros only worry was getting 100% healthy and go in to the postseason with all their weapons available. The Stros still have the best offense in baseball with over 5 ½ runs scored on a team batting average of .283 but the team has dropped four straight where neither the arms or bats came through. Most alarming is that the Astros do implode on the mound and that has happened too often. Houston is going to the playoffs but their stay won’t be a long one if the team doesn’t get everything on the same page in the closing weeks. Right hander Justin Verlander toes the rubber for his second start with the Houston Astros and second versus the Los Angeles Angels in 2017. Verlander comes off of a 3-1 victory at the Seattle Mariners with the lone run allowed on six hits and a BB in six frames.

The Los Angeles Angels are still in the Wild Card mix but the team has to avoid losing streaks of any length. The Angels just ended a three game skid with a 5-3 victory at the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Both the arms and bats contributed with LAA starter Parker Bridwell allowing a pair of runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings of work. Los Angeles logged eight hits and a base on balls with Mike Trout and Luis Valbuena smacking long balls while Justin Upton ripped a two run double. The Los Angeles Angels give Tuesday’s starting assignment to Garrett Richards who makes his third appearance since coming off of the disabled list. Richards did not get a decision in an 8-7 win at the Oakland Athletics with a run scoring on four hits in 3.1 frames.
Houston are 0-4 in their last 4 road games and Houston are 0-4 in their last 4 overall while Houston are 0-4 in their last 4 versus a right hander. Los Angeles are 4-1 in their last 5 home games and Los Angeles are 19-7 in their last 26 versus a right hander. Houston are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Los Angeles.
Houston is no longer a consistent team which means they are not a good bet. I would say they have an edge with Richards not long off the disabled list but I’m not betting them…
