The Line: Milwaukee Brewers / Pittsburgh Pirates --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in the rubber match of their three game set from Miller Park on Wednesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to rebound after dropping six of their last seven games following a 5-2 loss in game two on Tuesday. Jordy Mercer and Jordan Luplow each logged an RBI to account for the pair of Pirates’ RBIs in the loss. Andrew McCutchen went 1 for 4 with a double while Sean Rodriguez and Adam Frazier each added a base hit in the losing effort for Pittsburgh. Gerrit Cole took the loss to fall to 11-10 this season after allowing all five runs on seven hits while walking a pair and striking out ten over six innings of work. Tyler Glasnow will start the finale and is 2-6 with a 7.45 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Glasnow is 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to take the series after evening the set up at one win apiece following their win in game two on Tuesday. Eric Thames went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs, while Domingo Santana added two RBIs of his own, going 3 for 4 with a double. Ryan Braun added an RBI to round out the scoring for the Brew Crew in the win, while Eric Sogard chipped in a double. Keon Broxton and Brett Phillips each contributed a base hit in the winning effort for Milwaukee. Brent Suter gave up both runs on three hits while striking out three over three innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jeremy Jeffress got the win to improve to 3-0 this season while Corey Knebel threw a perfect 9th inning, striking out a pair for his 35th save of the year. Chase Anderson will start the finale and is 9-3 with a 2.93 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 7-16 in their last 23 road games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last 5 Wednesday games while the under is 9-4-1 in their last 14 division matchups. Milwaukee is 4-1 in their last 5 Wednesday games and 23-9 in their last 32 game 3 matchups while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games overall. Pittsburgh is 24-65 in the last 89 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
The Pirates were already slumping and sending Glasnow to the bump in the finale won’t help matters. Glasnow hasn’t started a game since June, and even then he had lost his last three starts, allowing 14 earned over 14 innings in that span. Anderson is one of the better arms the Brewers have and need to win games to keep their playoff hopes alive, so I’ll take Milwaukee to win the set on Wednesday.
