MLB comes to Busch Stadium Thursday when the St. Louis Cardinals host the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cincinnati Reds have been hot and cold throughout 2017 but consistent win streaks have been few in number. The Reds had dropped four of five before downing the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 on the road on Wednesday. Cinci starter Tyler Mahle picked up the win with four hits and three walks given up over five frames before three relievers finished the shutout. Cincinnati did their damage on eight hits and two base on balls with Jesse Winker going solo while Eugenio Suarez clubbed a grand slam. Amir Garrett toes the rubber for the Cincinnati Reds in the series opener at the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Garrett looks to bounce back from a 5-1 loss at the New York Mets where he was charged with four runs on five hits including three homers in five frames.

The surging St. Louis Cardinals are back in the postseason conversation with a two week hot streak bringing the team back from the dead. The red hot Cardinals had won nine of ten before cooling off for a night on Wednesday. Both the arms and bats failed to come up big with Cards starter Jack Flaherty allowing three runs on four hits and a pair of walks through 4.1 innings while Ryan Sherriff gave up another three runs on over 2/3 of an inning. St. Louis was held to five hits and a trio of bases on balls with Jose Martinez smacking a pair of singles. The St. Louis Cardinals begin their series versus the Cincinnati Reds with Luke Weaver on the bump. Weaver has won five in a row following a 4-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates with seven hits allowed while striking out seven over 5.2 frames.
Cincinnati are 19-42 in their last 61 road games and Cincinnati are 1-4 in their last 5 overall while Cincinnati are 0-6 in Garrett’s last 6 road starts. St. Louis are 4-0 in their last 4 overall and St. Louis are 4-0 in their last 4 home games while St. Louis are 5-0 in Weaver’s last 5 starts. Cincinnati are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
I like what I have seen from Weaver and if he has a decent outing I believe the Cardinals should be able to do some damage at the plate…
