The Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals meet in the finale of their three game NL East division series from Nationals Park on Thursday.
The Atlanta Braves will look to complete the sweep after an 8-2 win over the Nats in game two gave Atlanta their sixth win in their last seven games. Matt Kemp went 1 for 4 with a grand slam, while Dansby Swanson went 1 for 5 with two RBIs. Tyler Flowers went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Ozzie Albies chipped in an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Braves in the win. Lane Adams went 3 for 4 with a triple, while Nick Markakis went 2 for 4 at the dish in the win. Luiz Gohara got the win to improve to 1-1 this season, giving up both runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Mike Foltynewicz will start the finale and is 10-12 with a 4.74 ERA and 140 strikeouts this season. In his career, Foltynewicz is 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after their loss in game two on Wednesday. Anthony Rendon went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Wilmer Difo chipped in an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Washington in the loss. Trea Turner went 3 for 4 while Jayson Werth added a double of his own along with Michael Taylor’s base hit in the win as the Nats put up seven hits as a team in the losing effort. Max Scherzer took the loss to fall to 14-6 this season after giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out seven over six innings of work. Tanner Roark will start the finale and is 12-9 with a 4.48 ERA and 147 strikeouts this season. In his career, Roark is 5-2 with a 2.79 ERA and 51 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 0-6 in Foltynewicz’s last 6 starts and 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups while the over is 15-6 in their last 21 road games against a right-handed starter. Washington is 5-2 in Roark’s last 7 starts and 7-2 in their last 9 home games while the under is 19-7-6 in their last 32 games overall. Washington is 5-1 in Roark’s last 6 home starts against the Braves.
Roark has had success against the Braves and Atlanta hasn’t done much of anything with Folty on the mound lately, but the Braves have thoroughly outplayed the Nats in the first two games of the series and have killed the rest of the division as of late. Atlanta hit Scherzer hard and I have no reason to think they won’t do the same to Roark so I’ll take a stab at Atlanta to complete the sweep with the plus money.
