Cards starter Carlos Martinez absorbed the loss with seven runs given up on six hits and three free passes. The St. Louis offense managed seven hits and walked three times with Tommy Phan going solo while Carlos Martinez drove in Kolten Wong. The St. Louis Cardinals has named right hander Michael Wacha as Saturday’s starter at the Chicago Cubs. Wacha comes off of a 7-0 victory versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates where he allowed five hits and struck out seven over eight innings of work.

The goal for the Chicago Cubs is to stay ahead of the Cardinals and Brewers for a few more weeks to capture the NL Central crown. The Cubs are breathing a bit easier following their series opening victory versus St. Louis stretched their lead over the Redbirds. The Chicago Cubs hand the ball to Kyle Hendricks for the gam two start against the St. Louis Cardinals. Hendricks comes in off of a 3-1 loss to the visiting Milwaukee Brewers where he gave up all three runs on four hits and a pair of walks over six frames.
