For Saturday’s game, the Diamondbacks will be bringing out Zack Greinke. In his 186.1 innings and 16-6 record this year, the RHP Greinke has a 2.99 ERA with 200 Ks and 40 BBs.
Arizona has some big hitters this year. Paul Goldschmidt came into this set with 157 hits, 106 runs, 34 homers and 113 RBI while David Peralta had 143 hits, 74 runs, 13 homers and 49 RBI. Goldschmidt had a hit and a run on Friday; Peralta went 0-for-4.
Over on the Giants’ side, they’re going with LHP Madison Bumgarner on Saturday. In his 96.1 innings and 3-8 record this year, Bumgarner has a 3.55 ERA with 90 Ks and 18 BBs.
San Fran has some key bats as well. Buster Posey entered this set with 144 hits, 56 runs, 12 homers and 61 RBI while Joe Panik had 132 hits, 52 runs, 10 homers and 49 RBI. Posey put up an 0-for-4 line on Friday; Panik had two hits and a run.
The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in the last seven during game two of a series and 7-1 in Greinke’s last eight starts with four days’ rest. Arizona is also 36-17 in Greinke’s last 53 starts and 36-17 in Greinke’s last 53 starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Giants are 1-4 in their last five Saturday games and 0-7 in their last seven in game two of a series. San Francisco is also 0-4 in Bumgarner’s last four starts and 0-8 in Bumgarner’s last eight starts versus the NL West.
Greinke has been on a solid run lately, recording quality starts in his last four straight games. He’s allowed just six runs total in that time. As for Bumgarner, he’s stumbled a bit lately with 11 earned runs on 15 hits over 11.0 innings in his last two starts combined. He’s also 0-3 in his last three outings. I like Greinke to keep it going here so I’m sticking with the D-Backs.
