For the Sunday game, the Padres will be bringing out RHP Jhoulys Chacin. In his 164.0 innings and 12-10 record this year, Chacin has a 4.06 ERA with 137 Ks and 65 BBs.
The Padres have a few notable hitters this year. Coming into the weekend, Wil Myers brought 127 hits, 73 runs, 28 homers and 71 RBI; Manuel Margot had 117 hits, 50 runs, 13 homers and 38 RBI. Margot had one hit on Saturday; Myers came up empty.
Over on the Rockies’ side, they’re going with RHP Jon Gray on Sunday. in his 93.1 innings and 8-4 record this year, Gray has a 3.95 ERA with 92 Ks and 28 BBs.
Colorado has some solid bats as well. Carlos Blackmon brought 196 hits, 129 runs, 34 homers and 89 RBI into the weekend; DJ LeMahieu managed 175 hits, 91 runs and 63 RBI in that time. Blackmon homered on Saturday, and he and LeMahieu combined for three hits, four runs and five RBI.
The Padres are 15-43 in their last 58 Sunday games, and 4-0 in Chacin’s last four starts in game three of a series. San Diego is also 5-2 in Chacin’s last seven starts versus the NL West and 2-5 in Chacin’s last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Rockies are 2-5 in the last seven Sunday games and 1-4 in the last five during game three of a series. Colorado is also 6-1 in Gray’s last seven home starts and 1-5 in Grays’ last six Sunday starts.
After a quality start against the Dodgers, Chacin came back with four earned on seven hits in 5.0 innings in Arizona his last time up. As for Gray, he’s been on a nice run lately with five quality starts in his last six outings. I like Gray to keep it going here so I’m siding with the Rockies in this one.
