Out at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees will be finishing up their MLB series.
New York won the first two games of this set 13-5 and 8-2. On Saturday, New York posted a 9-3 win and have taken seven of their last eight.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Sunday game, the Orioles will be bringing out Ubaldo Jimenez. In his 134.2 innings and 5-10 record this year, Jimenez has a 6.75 ERA with 126 Ks.
Baltimore has some interesting hitters this year. Coming into the weekend, Jonathan Schoop brought 170 hits, 87 runs, 32 homers and 104 RBI, while Adam Jones managed 161 hits, 78 runs, 26 homers and 70 RBI. Jones went 0-for-3 on Saturday; Schoop had one hit.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with LHP CC Sabathia on Sunday. In his 131.0 innings and 11-5 record this year, Sabathia has a 3.85 ERA with 105 Ks and 48 BBs.
New York has some solid bats as well. Brett Gardner brought 142 hits, 90 runs, 20 homers and 58 RBI into the weekend; Didi Gregorius had 140 hits, 65 runs, 22 homers and 77 RBI. Gardner had a hit on Saturday; Gregorius popped a three-run homer and plated three runs.
The Orioles are 6-1 in the last seven games versus a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in the last five during game four of a series. Baltimore is also 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games and 5-2 in their last seven road games versus a left-handed starter.
Meanwhile, New York is 4-1 in the last five during game four of a series and 13-3 in Sabathia’s last 16 starts versus the AL East. The Yankees are 5-2 in Sabathia’s last seven starts with five days’ rest and 17-8 in Sabathia’s last 25 starts.
After giving up five earned on eight hits in 5.1 innings (against Baltimore), Sabathia came back with a good start in Tampa on 4.1 innings, one earned and six hits. As for Jimenez, he’s been pretty sketchy this year and allowed three runs against the Blue Jays his last time out. I like Sabathia to come out strong and pitch better than he did last time against the Orioles. I’ll take New York to bag the sweep.
