USA TODAY Sports
For the Sunday game, the Red Sox will be bringing out LHP Eduardo Rodriguez. In his 122.1 innings and 5-5 record this year, Rodriguez has a 4.19 ERA with 135 Ks and 45 BBs.
Boston has some notable hitters this year. Coming into the weekend, Mookie Betts brought 154 hits, 91 runs, 21 homers and 88 RBI while Andrew Benintendi had 146 hits, 75 runs, 19 homers and 85 RBI. On Saturday, Benintendi plated a run; Betts had a homer with two RBI and two runs.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re going with RHP Jake Odorizzi on Sunday. In his 127.1 innings and 8-8 record this year, Odorizzi has a 4.52 ERA with 108 Ks and 56 BBs.
Tampa has some solid bats as well. Corey Dickerson brought 153 hits, 78 runs, 26 homers and 60 RBI into the weekend; Evan Longoria had 150 hits, 67 runs, 18 homers and 79 RBI. Longoria and Dickerson each had a hit on Saturday.
The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 during game three of a series and 4-0 in Rodriguez’s last four starts in game three of a series. Boston is also 4-0 in Rodriguez’s last four Sunday starts and 0-5 in Rodriguez’s last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games and 1-4 in Odorizzi’s last five Sunday starts. Tampa is also 1-7 in Odorizzi’s last eight home starts and 1-6 in Odorizzi’s last seven home starts versus a team with a winning record.
After coughing up five earned in 5.0 innings on 10 hits against the Yankees, Rodriguez has bounced back with three earned on seven hits in 12.0 innings in his last two starts. As for Odorizzi, he’s given up one earned on four hits over 10.1 innings in his last pair of outings. I like Rodriguez to come out strong here and help Boston get a win. I’ll take the Sox.
