The Miami Marlins and the Colorado Rockies square off in game one of their three game set from Coors Field on Monday night.
The Miami Marlins will look to find some consistency down the stretch after alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games, including a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks in their series finale on Sunday. Brian Anderson went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Giancarlo Stanton pitched in an RBI of his own in the losing effort for the Fish. Starting pitcher Dan Straily added a double of his own, while Dee Gordon and Tyler Moore contributed base hits each in the loss. Speaking of Straily, he gave up one run on four hits while walking three and striking out nine over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Brad Ziegler notched his 6th blown save of the year, while Justin Nicolino was responsible for the walk-off RBI, taking the loss to fall to 2-3 this season. Odrisamer Despaigne will start the opener and is 0-3 with a 4.37 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. In his career, Despaigne is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies will look to hold onto the second wild-card spot over the final week of the season, and that process started with an 8-4 win in their series finale against the Padres, salvaging a crucial series split for Colorado. Pat Valaika went 2 for 2 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, while Mark Reynolds went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs of his own. Charlie Blackmon added a solo homer, while Gerardo Parra and Ian Desmond each chipped in a run in the winning effort. DJ LeMahieu, Nolan Arenado and Ryan Hanigan each contributed a base knock in the win for the Rockies. German Marquez got the win to improve to 11-7 this season after giving up two runs on five hits while walking and striking out three apiece over five innings of work. Tyler Chatwood will start the opener for the Rockies and is 8-13 with a 4.56 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chatwood is 0-1 with a 14.29 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Miami.
Miami is 5-2 in their last 7 games against the NL West and 1-7 in their last 8 road games while the over is 11-3-3 in their last 17 games overall. Colorado is 1-4 in Chatwood’s last 5 starts against the NL East and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 Monday games. Miami is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
For me, the only interest I have in Miami over the last week of the season is whether or not Stanton hits 60 home runs. Other than that, the Rockies are the team with everything to lose here, as their magic number to clinch the second wild card is down to just 5. The line is a bit steep for my liking given the pitching matchup, but I’ll take the team with something to play for here, and that’s Colorado.
