The Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago White Sox meet in game three of their four game set from Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to build some momentum after evening up their series with the White Sox at one win apiece following their 9-3 victory in game two on Tuesday. Mike Trout led the way, going 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Brandon Phillips went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, while Albert Pujols added two RBIs of his own and Luis Valbuena chipped in a solo homer. Justin Upton added an RBI of his own, while Andrelton Simmons and Martin Maldonado each contributed a double and C.J. Cron chipped in a base hit of his own in the win. Parker Bridwell got the win to improve to 9-3 this season after giving up all three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings of work. Garrett Richards will start game three and is 0-2 with a 1.50 ERA and 24 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richards is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA and 21 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday. Jose Abreu led the team, going 2 for 4 with a pair of solo home runs and a double, while Kevan Smith added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the White Sox in the loss. Avisail Garcia added a double of his own, while Rob Brantly chipped in a base knock of his own as the White Sox put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Chris Volstad took the loss, falling to 1-1 this season after giving up six runs on six hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Reynaldo Lopez will start the finale and is 3-3 with a 4.54 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. This will be Lopez’s first career start against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 4-9 in Richards’ last 13 starts while the over is 13-5 in Richards’ last 18 road starts. Chicago is 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 17-37 in their last 54 Wednesday games while the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 home games. Los Angeles is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.
Richards has been solid since coming back from the DL, giving up just four runs over those four starts. The problem is that Richards hasn’t won any of those starts because he hasn’t gotten any run support. Lopez has won his last three starts and I think he could make it four here, with the Angels down to their last chance with their magic number to be eliminated at 1, and I think the White Sox deliver the death blow with a win in game three on Wednesday.
