The Pittsburgh Pirates visit DC to battle the Washington Nationals in Thursday night MLB.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping for a strong showing in the last weekend of 2017. The Pirates did look good Wednesday in a 5-3 victory versus the visiting Baltimore Orioles where the team overcame an early 3-1 deficit. Pitt starter Chad Kuhl gave up all three runs on eight hits and a BB over five innings while five relievers put up zeros. Pittsburgh did their damage on nine hits and a pair of free passes with Gregory Polanco leaving the yard while Josh Bell went 3-4 with a homer and three runs driven in. The Pittsburgh Pirates have named right hander Gerrit Cole as Thursday’s game one starter at the Washington Nationals. Cole defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 11-6 last time out with five runs given up on seven hits and a free pass over 5.2 frames.

The Washington Nationals had wrapped up the National League East awhile ago so there was little to play for as the season began winding down. The Nationals still did their share of winning but that wasn’t the case Wednesday night in a 7-5 defeat at the Philadelphia Phillies. The Nats pitching struggled with starter Tanner Roark allowing six runs given up on seven hits and five bases on balls through 4.2 innings of work. Washington pounded out eleven hits and walked seven times with Michael Taylor going solo while Jason Werth knocked in a pair followed by Daniel Murphy with a run and RBI. The Washington Nationals open the series with the Pittsburgh Pirates with Stephen Strasburg on the bump. Strasburg comes off of a 4-3 win (ND) at the New York Mets with all three runs given up on seven hits and a walk over five innings of work.
Pittsburgh are 6-21 in their last 27 road games and the under is 20-6 in Pittsburgh last 26 road games while the under is 18-7-1 in Pittsburgh last 26 Thursday games. Washington are 6-2 in their last 8 Thursday games and the under is 5-2-1 in Washington last 8 home games while the under is 31-15-6 in Washington last 52 overall.
I am now seeing Nova being listed as the Pirates starter in a few places so be sure to check the lineups before betting with nothing up for grabs here. I’ll back Washington but hate the chalk here…
