Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs host the Cincinnati Reds in a Saturday MLB matchup.

The season might be coming to a close but the misery for the Cincinnati Reds continue as a late bullpen implosion cost the team in a 5-4 defeat at the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Reds starter Robert Stephenson allowed two runs (one earned) over five frames before Amir Garrett and Michel Lorenzen gave up a combined three runs in the 8th as a 4-2 lead went by the wayside. Cincinnati logged eight hits and three bases on balls with Tucker Barnhart and Phillip  Ervin both driving in runs and scoring while Joey Votto had two hits and an RBI.  Rookie Jackson Stephens has been named the game two starter at the Chicago Cubs on Saturday by the Cincinnati Reds.  In six appearances (three starts) Stevens has gone 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP covering 21 innings of work.

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds - 9/30/17 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Chicago Cubs didn’t start the season looking like the defending World Series winners but at the end of a long year the team has won the National League Central and will get a shot at a repeat. The Cubs come from behind win over visiting Cincinnati did keep the team hot with wins in five of six. Cubbies starter Jose Quintana was charged with four runs on six hits through 4.2 innings before four relievers putting up zeros. The Chicago attack consisted of nine hits and three walks with Ian Happ going 2-4 with a homer, knocking in three and scoring twice. The Chicago Cubs hand Saturday’s start against the visiting Cincinnati Reds to veteran left hander Jon Lester. Lester comes off of a 10-2 win at the St. Louis Cardinals with a run plated on five hits  and a pair  of walks  over six  innings pitched.

Cincinnati are 1-8 in their last 9 overall and Cincinnati are 1-8 in their last 9 games on grass while Cincinnati are 2-9 in their last 11 Saturday games. Chicago are 13-3 in their last 16 overall and the under is 8-2 in Chicago last 10 on grass while Chicago are 16-5 in their last 21 home games. The over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago and Chicago are 10-2 in Lester’s last 12 starts versus Cincinnati.

I can’t honestly say there is a good choice here with the Chicago being big chalk in a meaningless game while Cincinnati is just crumbling…
