For the Saturday game, the Jays will be bringing out RHP Marcus Stroman. In his 197.0 innings and 13-8 record this year, Stroman has a 3.08 ERA with 162 Ks and 61 BBs.
Toronto has some key batters this season. Kevin Pillar entered this set with 150 hits, 72 runs, 16 homers and 42 RBI while Justin Smoak had 150 hits, 85 runs, 38 homers and 90 RBI. Pillar and Smoak were out of action on Friday.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with LHP Jaime Garcia on Saturday. In his 157.0 innings and 5-10 record this year, Garcia has a 4.41 ERA with 129 Ks and 64 BBs.
New York has some noteworthy hitters as well. Brett Gardner entered this series on 157 hits, 96 runs, 21 homers and 63 RBI while Aaron Judge posted 152 hits, 126 runs, 51 homers and 112 RBI. Gardner sat out Friday; Judge had a hit, an RBI and a run.
The Blue Jays are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games and 5-1 in Stroman’s last six starts with five days’ rest. Toronto is also 11-3 in Stroman’s last 14 Saturday starts and 5-2 in Stroman's last seven starts in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 4-0 in their last four during game two of a series and 6-0 in their last six Saturday games. The under is 5-1 in New York’s last six Saturday games and 5-1 in the Yankees’ last six during game two of a series.
Stroman has been pretty good lately. he posted a pair of quality starts against KC and Baltimore then put up three earned on five hits in 5.2 innings in a win over the Yankees his last time out. As for Garcia, he had a good run going but then coughed up five earned on four hits in 2.1 innings in Toronto in his most recent start. I’m sure the Yankees would like to get Garcia a win (finally) but with New York focused on that Wild Card game, we’re probably looking at a lot of scrub time here while the big hitters rest. Give me Toronto.
