The Line: St. Louis Cardinals / Milwaukee Brewers --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals face off in game two of their three game NL Central set from Busch Stadium on Saturday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive and took the first step after a 5-3 win in the series opener on Friday. Stephen Vogt went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Eric Thames and Orlando Arcia each added an RBI to round out the scoring for the Brew Crew in the win. Domingo Santana went 2 for 4 with a double while Travis Shaw and Brett Phillips each contributed a base hit in the win for Milwaukee. Chase Anderson went seven innings, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out five to get the win, improving to 12-4 this season. Junior Guerra will start game two and is 1-4 with a 4.90 ERA and 62 strikeouts this season. In his career, Guerra is 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA and 13 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to play the ultimate spoiler role and eliminate the Brewers from playoff contention with a win on Saturday. In Friday’s loss, all of the Cards’ damage on the scoreboard was done via the home run, with Paul DeJong hitting a solo homer and Jose Martinez going yard for a two run shot. Greg Garcia and Carson Kelly each contributed a base hit as the Cardinals put up just six hits as a team in the loss. John Gant took the loss to fall to 0-1 this season after giving up four runs on seven hits while walking and whiffing three apiece in the loss. Luke Weaver will start game two and is 7-2 with a 3.23 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Weaver is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 36 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 8-2 in their last 10 road games and 11-4 in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 46-18-3 in their last 67 games overall. St. Louis is 5-1 in Weaver’s last 6 division starts and 1-6 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-1-1 in Weaver’s last 7 home starts. Milwaukee is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in St. Louis.
Even though Weaver was lit up against the Cubs in his last outing, he has won both of his outings against the Brewers this season, allowing two runs in each and I feel a lot more comfortable backing him as opposed to Guerra who will be making his first start since late-July. Granted there are some relief appearances over the last month thrown in there, but I think the Brewers will be too distracted scoreboard watching to try to keep up with the Rockies, ultimately leading to their demise and a Cardinals win behind another strong outing from Weaver.
