Down in St. Petersburg on Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays will be concluding their MLB seasons at Tropicana Field.
The Rays took game one of this set 7-0, then on Saturday Tampa got another win 4-3.
For the Sunday game, the Orioles will be bringing out RHP Kevin Gausman. In his 179.2 innings and 11-11 record this year, Gausman has a 4.81 ERA with 170 Ks and 71 BBs.

Baltimore has a few key bats this year. Jonathan Schoop entered the weekend with 181 hits, 91 runs, 32 homers and 105 RBI while Adam Jones had 170 hits, 82 runs, 26 homers and 73 RBI. On Saturday, Schoop had a hit and a run; Jones was out of the lineup.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re going with LHP Blake Snell on Sunday. In his 122.1 innings and 4-7 record this year, Snell has a 4.27 ERA with 106 Ks and 59 BBs.
Tampa Bay has some notable hitters as well. Chris Dickerson entered the weekend with 161 hits, 83 runs, 27 homers and 62 RBI while Evan Longoria had 158 hits, 70 runs, 20 homers and 82 RBI. Dickerson had two hits and a run on Saturday; Longoria didn’t play.
The Orioles are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 1-6 in their last seven during game three of a series. Baltimore is also 5-2 in Gausman’s last seven road starts and 6-2 in Gausman’s last eight starts versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 4-1 in Snell’s last five home starts. Tampa is also 1-4 in Snell’s last five starts in game three of a series and 4-13 in Snell’s last 17 starts with four days’ rest.
Gausman had a couple of good starts going with one earned on nine hits in 15.0 innings, but faltered in Pittsburgh his last time up with six earned on five hits in 4.0 innings. As for Snell, he had two starts with one earned over 12.0 total innings, but then gave up four earned on four hits in 1.0 innings against the Yankees. Both these pitchers are decent, but I think Gausman and the Orioles have the edge in the matchup. I’ll take Baltimore.
