The Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees meet Tuesday in the American League Wild Card game at Yankee Stadium on ESPN.
The Minnesota Twins enter the playoffs winning seven of their last 10 games. The Twins weren’t the same team once Miguel Sano went down with injury, but he’s played the last three games and adds some serious firepower to a lineup that needs it can get. Overall, Brian Dozier leads the Twins with 166 hits and 93 RBI while Joe Mauer and Eddie Rosario have combined for 317 hits and 149 RBI. The Minnesota Twins are in the playoffs for the first time since 2010, so it’s going to be interesting to see how this team handles things, especially on the road. Ervin Santana gets the ball, and he is 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA and 167 strikeouts this season. Santana is 6-10 with a 5.66 ERA and 90 strikeouts in his career against the Yankees.

The New York Yankees finished the season winning six of their last nine games and are in the playoffs for the second time in three years. The Yanks have a chance to surprise people this postseason because of possibly the best bullpen in baseball. Offensively, Brett Gardner leads the Yankees with 157 hits and 63 RBI while Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorius have combined for 307 hits and 201 RBI. The New York Yankees have a manager in Joe Girardi who has been here done that as a player and manager, so he’ll be able to provide his young team with much added experience and advice. Luis Severino gets the ball, and he is 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA and 230 strikeouts this season. This will be Severino’s second career game against the Twins.
The Twins are 5-21 in their last 26 playoff games, 1-5 in their last 6 vs. American League East and 3-7 in Santanas last 10 starts vs. American League East. The Yankees are 14-3 in their last 17 home games, 0-5 in their last 5 playoff games and 4-0 in their last 4 vs. American League Central. The Twins are 14-42 in the last 56 meetings in New York, 17-50 in the last 67 meetings and the under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
This price is very steep for a one-game playoff series, especially with a pitcher in Santana on the mound, who has allowed a combined five runs in his last four starts and has a 2.71 ERA on the road. Santana is also allowing just a .216 batting average on the road in 109.2 innings. However, Severino has allowed two or less runs in seven of his last 10 starts and is allowing just a .208 batting average on the season. Severino misses a ton of bats and that's key when playing in a playoff game where every out is massive. Not to mention the Yankees bullpen, as you have to be confident they'll win as long as they have a lead past the fifth inning. I think the Yanks can do damage this postseason and it starts with a victory at home.
