We have an NL West showdown on tap Wednesday, as the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off in the National League Wild Card game from Chase Field.
The Colorado Rockies enter the postseason for the first time since 2009 after finishing the season with an 87-75 record this season, including a 41-40 record away from Coors Field this season. Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon led the team with 37 home runs while Arenado added a whopping a whopping 130 RBIs, and Blackmon logged a team-leading .331 batting average. DJ LeMahieu added 189 base hits while Mark Reynolds added 30 homers of his own. The Rockies rotation was the definition of a mish-mash this season, with German Marquez being the only pitcher to log more than 162 innings this season. Jon Gray will get the nod in the wild card game and was 10-4 with a 3.67 ERA and 112 strikeouts in the regular season. In his career, Gray is 2-2 with a 4.75 ERA and 30 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks locked up home field in the wild card game thanks to a 93-69 record in the regular season, including a 52-29 record at home this season. Paul Goldschmidt led the D-Backs with 36 homers, 120 RBIs and a total of 73 extra base hits to go along with a team-leading batting average of .297. J.D. Martinez made quite the splash since being traded from Detroit, slapping 29 home runs and 65 RBIs. Jake Lamb contributed 30 homers and 105 RBIs of his own, while David Peralta added 154 base hits, Brandon Drury led the team with 37 doubles and A.J. Pollock chipped in 6 triples. Zack Greinke led the D-Backs rotation, and will start the wild card game here, and was 17-7 with a 3.20 ERA and 215 strikeouts this season. In his career, Greinke is 9-5 with a 3.93 ERA and 148 strikeouts against Colorado.
Colorado is 7-2 in Gray’s last 9 division starts and 2-6 in ther last 8 road games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 playoff road games. Arizona is 38-18 in Greinke’s last 56 starts and 6-2 in their last 8 home games while the under is 6-1-1 in Greinke’s last 8 division starts. Arizona is 1-4 in Greinke’s last 5 home starts against Colorado.
I’ve been high on the Diamondbacks for pretty much the entire season, and that’s not going to stop here. Colorado had a solid season making it to the wild card game, but this Rockies team is a different team away from home and the thin air of Colorado. Greinke was 13-1 at home this season, and I can’t back Gray here who had an ERA over four on the road against a D-Backs lineup that can swing the bat with the best of them, so I’ll lay the juice with Arizona to move on here.
