The Washington Nationals welcome the Chicago Cubs to town for the second game of the NLDS in a MLB tilt on Saturday.
The Chicago Cubs began their quest for a second straight World Series title with a step in the right direction in a 3-0 victory at the Washington Nationals. A few clutch hits and outstanding work on the mound did the trick for a 1-0 series lead. Cubbies starter Kyle Hendricks allowed a pair of hits and walked three to pick up the win while a pair of relievers did not allow a base runner. Chicago mustered five hi[ts and walked twice with Anthony Rizzo went 2-4 and drove in a pair while Kris Bryant scored and recorded an RBI. Veteran left hander Jon Lester gets the ball on Saturday in game two of the NLDS at the Washington Nationals. Lester has been solid overall with a 13-8 record with a 4.33 ERA over 32 starts.

The Washington Nationals are a perennial playoff squad but have not been a good playoff team. The Nationals did nothing to change that perception as the offense and defense came up short in dropping the NLDS opener versus the visiting Chicago Cubs. Nats starter Stephen Strasburg was charged with a pair of unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out ten through seven innings of work to absorb the loss while Ryan Madson gave up a run in an inning. The dangerous Washington attack was held to a mere two hits and three bases on balls with Bryce Harper and Michael Taylor smacking singles. The Washington Nationals give Saturday’s start in the second game of the NLDS to left hander Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez has enjoyed a strong 2017 campaign where he has gone 15-9 with a 2.96 ERA over 32 outings.
Chicago are 14-3 in their last 17 games on grass and Chicago are 9-3 in their last 12 Saturday games and under is 6-2 in Chicago last 8 road games. Under is 5-2-1 in Washington last 8 home games and Washington are 3-7 in their last 10 playoff games and under is 30-14-7 in Washington last 51 overall.
The Nationals are not a team I wish to back with my cash in the postseason as I believe they’ll lose this series…
