The Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals square off in game two of the NLDS from Nationals Park on Saturday.
The Chicago Cubs will look to push the Nationals to the brink and take a 2-0 series lead after winning the series opener on Friday. Anthony Rizzo went 2 for 4 with a double, while Kris Bryant added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Cubbies in the win. Jon Jay added a pinch-hit double, while Addison Russell chipped in a base knock of his own as Chicago logged just five hits as a team in the win. Kyle Hendricks got the win after throwing seven innings of two hit shutout baseball, walking three and striking out six over seven innings of work. Carl Edwards Jr. struck out a pair in the 8th and Wade Davis closed things out in the 9th for his first save of the postseason. Jon Lester will start game two and was 13-8 with a 4.33 ERA and 180 strikeouts in the regular season. In his career, Lester is 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 49 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will look to bounce back and even up the series after dropping game one on Friday. Bryce Harper and Michael Taylor each logged a base hit as the Nats mustered up just a pair of base hits as a team in the losing effort, while striking out a combined nine times in the loss. Stephen Strasburg took the loss after giving up a pair of unearned runs on three hits while striking out ten over seven innings of work. Gio Gonzalez will get the nod for Washington in game two and was 15-9 with a 2.96 ERA and 188 strikeouts in the regular season. In his career, Gonzalez is 3-3 with a 3.06 ERA and 63 strikeouts against the Cubs.
Chicago is 8-1 in Lester’s last 9 starts against the NL East and 16-5 in their last 21 games overall while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 road games. Washington is 4-13 in Gonzalez’s last 17 starts against the NL Central and 3-8 in their last 11 playoff games while the under is 31-13-7 in their last 51 games overall. Washington is 0-4 in Gonzalez’s last 4 starts against Chicago.
I thought going into this, like many, that this was going to be the most competitive of the four division series, and game one proved that. As far as game two goes, we are getting the team in much better form with the pitcher in better form at plus money. Lester has got the win in five of his last six starts, while Gonzalez gave up six earned in 4.1 innings of work in his regular season finale. Plus, the Nats haven’t had any recent success with Gonzalez on the bump against Chicago, so I’ll gladly take the plus money with the Cubs to go up 2-0 here.
