The Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees meet Monday in game four of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium.
The Cleveland Indians can make it back-to-back ALCS appearances with a road victory here. The Indians had just five hits in the game three loss and finished 0-4 with runners in scoring position. The good news for the Indians is that the pitching stage has held the Yankees to one or less runs in two of the first three games, so it’s not like the offense has do a whole lot to give themselves a chance to win. Speaking of the offense, Jason Kipnis and Jay Bruce have combined for seven hits and five RBI while Carlos Santana has three hits and two RBI. The Cleveland Indians haven’t lost back-to-back games since August 22-23. Josh Tomlin gets the ball, and he was 10-9 with a 4.98 ERA and 109 strikeouts this season. Tomlin is 3-1 with a 4.12 ERA and 14 strikeouts in his postseason career.

The New York Yankees need another victory here in order to force a game five on Wednesday. The Yankees couldn’t get going offensively in the game three victory, but a Greg Bird homer was enough, as the pitching staff handled the rest with 11 strikeouts and zero runs allowed. The Yankees are always going to be a tough team to beat when the pitching performs well due to so much firepower in the lineup. Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks have combined for 10 hits and six RBI while Starlin Castro has four hits and one RBI. Luis Severino gets the ball, and he was 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA and 230 strikeouts this season. Severino is 0-0 with a 81.00 ERA and zero strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Indians are 16-5 in their last 21 Monday games, 5-2 in their last 7 playoff road games and 35-16 in their last 51 during game 4 of a series. The Yankees are 19-7 in their last 26 Monday games, 5-0 in Severinos last 5 home starts and 14-2 in Severinos last 16 starts. The Indians are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and the over is 4-0 in Severinos last 4 starts vs. Indians.
The reason I picked the Yankees in game three was because of how well they play at home and that offense thrives in that small park. I wasn't expecting a 1-0 victory, but maybe that's a good think for New York, as this offense can't be shutdown twice in their digs. The Indians haven't lost back-to-back games in over a month and Severino was awful in his postseason debut, but maybe that 0.1 inning helped him break the ice and will calm his nerves when he takes the mound here. Tomlin was up and down in the month of September and is allowing a batting average of .294, so he's not the toughest pitcher to face. With a Yankees offense that's due and their ace on the hill, I see a game five taking place between these two teams.
