The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Saturday in game one of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium.
The Chicago Cubs are coming off a draining five-game series against the Washington Nationals and will be thrown right into a new one. In a game five victory, the Cubs used seven pitchers, including a pair of starters, and they asked their closer to get seven outs. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the Cubs manage things given that arms have been tested quite a bit and there’s no rest. Offensively, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have combined for eight hits and eight RBI while Addison Russell has four hits and four RBI. The Chicago Cubs haven’t named a starting pitcher for this game, so please check back for updates.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had quite a bit of time off after sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers flexed their muscle on the offensive end in that series, producing 20 runs and 31 hits. Justin Turner leads the Dodgers with six hits and five RBI while Yasiel Puig and Logan Forsythe have combined for nine hits and five RBI. The pitching wasn’t the best in the series, but did have 28 strikeouts in 27 innings and shut the door on the road in a game three victory. The Los Angeles Dodgers are possibly the most dangerous team in the playoffs due to being able to win with great pitching or offense. Clayton Kershaw gets the ball, and he was 18-4 with a 2.31 ERA and 202 strikeouts this season. Kershaw is 5-7 with a 4.63 ERA and 113 strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Cubs are 6-2 in their last 8 playoff games, 36-15 in their last 51 games following an off day and 35-17 in their last 52 overall. The Dodgers are 20-7 in their last 27 games following an off day, 47-10 in Kershaws last 57 home starts and 45-9 in Kershaws last 54 starts. The Dodgers are 5-1 in Kershaws last 6 home starts vs. Cubs, 7-3 in Kershaws last 10 starts vs. Cubs and the Cubs are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Los Angeles.
I'm obviously leaning Dodgers here heavily due to the Cubs having no rested arms in their bullpen and the Dodgers having their ace on the mound. But I will update with a full breakdown once the Cubs release a starting pitcher.
