MLB action at Great American Ballpark features the Cincinnati Reds hosting the Washington Nationals.
The Washington Nationals offense was quiet in their season opener but their pitching made meager support stand up in a 2-0 victory at Cincinnati on Friday. Washington starter Max Scherzer was dominant with ten strikeouts over six scoreless frames with three relievers tossing an inning each.

The Nationals totaled six hits and four free passes with Ryan Zimmerman and Brian Goodwin driving in runs while Adam Eaton and Michael Taylor scored. Veteran right hander Stephen Strasburg looks to continue the success of 2017 when he gets the start at Cincinnati on Saturday. Strasburg went 15-4 with a 2.52 ERA in 28 starts a season ago.
The Cincinnati Reds know they have to win when the pitching allows just two runs to the powerhouse Nationals but that didn’t happen and an outstanding effort on the mound went for naught . Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey allowed a run over six frames with Jared Hughes giving up a 9h inning run.
The Reds managed seven hits and a pair of bases on balls with Scooter Gennett leading the offense with a 4-4 performance with Joey Votto and Scott Schrebler posted singles. Right hander Luis Castillo draw Saturday’s start against Washington who he faced twice a year ago. Castillo made 15 starts in 2017 and went 3-7 with a 3.12 ERA over 89.1 innings.
Under is 17-5-4 in Washington last 26 road games and under is 33-15-7 in Washington last 55 overall and under is 33-15-7 in Washington last 55 on grass. Cincinnati are 2-10 in their last 12 overall and Cincinnati are 2-10 in their last 12 games on grass and Cincinnati are 5-16 in their last 21 Saturday games. Over is 6-2 in Strasburg’s last 8 starts vs. Cincinnati and over is 9-4-1 in the last 14 meetings.
If Castillo is at the top of his game I think the Nats could be in trouble but I’ll side with Strasburg and company…
