We have some NL West division action on Saturday night as the San Francisco Giants meet in game three of their four game opening weekend set from Dodger Stadium.
The San Francisco Giants will look for a surprising series win and will look to aim for the sweep on Sunday after winning a second consecutive 1-0 decision over the Dodgers on Friday evening. Joe Panik’s solo home run was the long run scored in the game, while Brandon Crawford added a single as the only other base hit for San Francisco in the winning effort. Johnny Cueto was phenomenal, taking a perfect game into the 7th inning, giving up just one hits while striking out four over seven innings of work for the win, while Hunter Strickland picked up his 2nd save of the year. Derek Holland will make his Giants debut in game three and was 7-14 with a 6.20 ERA and 104 strikeouts last season. In his career, Holland is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA and 2 strikeouts against the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will not only be looking for their first win of the year, but their first run on the board as L.A. has been shut out through the first two games of the regular season. Chris Taylor’s single in the 7th inning was the lone hit for the Dodgers in the losing effort. Alex Wood was equally phenomenal, giving up just one hit while striking out five over eight innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Kenley Jansen gave up the game deciding homer in the 9th, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Kenta Maeda will start game three for the Dodgers, and was 13-6 with a 4.22 ERA and 140 strikeouts last season. In his career, Maeda is 3-1 with a 5.56 ERA and 24 strikeouts against San Francisco.
San Francisco is 19-39 in their last 58 road games and 2-6 in their last 8 Saturday games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Los Angeles is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 53-22 in their last 75 home games while the under is 6-1 in Maeda’s last 7 starts against a team with a winning record. The under is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
This Dodgers team is way too good to continue slumping like this, and are due for a breakout game, and it could come against a pitcher like Holland who looked nothing but shaky and unreliable last season. However, we’ve seen nothing from the Dodgers to shy away from the crazy plus money over the first two games. Sure, the Giants aren’t scoring many runs in their own right, but they don’t ask how, they just ask if you’re winning games, and in this line of work that’s all we really care about. I’ll take a stab at the Giants for a third straight upset with the plus money here.
