Up at Safeco Field on Saturday, the Cleveland Indians and the Seattle Mariners will be picking up their MLB series once again.

In Thursday’s opener, we had a tight game. The Mariners put up their two runs in the bottom of the first, then held on for the victory after allowing a run to Cleveland in the seventh. Seattle out-hit the Indians 6-5 in that one.

For the Saturday game, the Indians will be bringing out RHP Carlos Carrasco for the start. Across his 32 starts, 18-6 record and 200.0 innings last season, Carrasco managed a 3.28 ERA with 173 hits and 73 earned.

The Indians didn’t have much offense to speak of in the opener, with Lonnie Chisenhall providing the lone extra-base hit. Yan Gomes had one hit and provided the only Cleveland RBI and one of a pair of walks.

Over on the Mariners’ side, they’re going to be going with LHP James Paxton on Saturday. Last season in his 24 games and 12-5 record over 136.0 innings, Paxton put up a 2.98 ERA on 113 hits and 45 earned runs.

Mitch Haniger was the big contributor for Seattle on Thursday, putting up three hits with a double. Nelson Cruz provided all the run production for the Mariners, ripping a two-run homer for his lone hit.

The Indians are 7-1 in their last eight Saturday games and 44-12 in their last 56 overall. Cleveland is also 36-17 in their last 53 road games and 5-1 in Carrasco’s last six Saturday starts.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are 7-2 in their last nine following an off day and 5-11 in their last 16 overall. Seattle is also 5-0 in Paxton’s last five starts in game two of a series and 1-4 in Paxton’s last five starts.

Thursday’s opener between these two teams was nothing if not interesting, and it seems these two teams match up really well. We’ve got a great pitching duel set for Saturday, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another tight one. I think the Indians have the edge in potential offense however—despite Thursday’s lone run—so I’m going with Cleveland.
