The Indians did their damage with six hits and four walks with Yan Gomes smacking a two run homer while Yonder Alonso connected on a grand slam and scored twice. Trevor Bauer takes the hill versus the Mariners who he faced once last season. Bauer enjoyed his best year in the majors in 2017 where he was 17-9 with a 4.19 ERA over 31 starts.
The Seattle Mariners could not overcome some early pitching struggles despite a strong effort at the plate. Seattle starter James Paxton served up a first inning grand slam and allowed all six runs over 4.2 frames before the pen held the Indians scoreless the rest of the way.
The Mariners totaled ten hits and a walk with Mitch Haniger going solo and Nelson Cruz slugging a two run homer. Robinson Cano went 3-4 with an RBI and run while Ichiro Suzuki and Dee Gordon posted two hits each and scored. Veteran right hander Mike Leake begins his first full season with Seattle after being traded n 2017. After making 31 starts for St. Louis, Leake started five games for the Mariners and was 5-3 with a 2.53 ERA.
Cleveland are 44-12 in their last 56 overall and Cleveland are 41-12 in their last 53 games on grass and under is 5-2-1 in Cleveland last 8 overall. Seattle are 2-6 in their last 8 home games and Seattle are 5-11 in their last 16 overall and Seattle are 5-11 in their last 16 games on grass. Under is 19-7-1 in the last 27 meetings.
I’m hoping Bauer carries over the momentum from last season and the offense carries over the momentum of Saturday…
