The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks square off in game one of an intriguing early season three game NL West division set from Chase Field on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to build some steam after back-to-back wins, including a 9-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night baseball. Cody Bellinger and Enrique Hernandez led L.A. with two RBIs apiece, with Bellinger belting out his first homer of the year while Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a double. Yasiel Puig added a double and an RBI while Austin Barnes, Yasmani Grandal and Joe Pederson added RBIs of their own to round out the scoring for the Dodgers in the win. Chris Taylor went 2 for 5 with a double while Corey Seager chipped in a base hit of his own in the winning effort for L.A. Rich Hill threw six shutout innings, giving up five hits while walking three and striking out five to get the win to improve to 1-0 this season. Hyun-Jin Ryu will start for the Dodgers and was 5-9 with a 3.77 ERA and 116 strikeouts last season. In his career, Ryu is 3-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 50 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to bounce back after failing to complete the sweep, dropping their opening series finale against Colorado by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday. Nick Ahmed went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while David Peralta, A.J. Pollock, Daniel Descalso and Chris Owings added base knocks of their own in the loss as the D-Backs mustered up just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Zack Greinke gave up just one run on five hits while striking out nine over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Fernando Salad gave up the eventual game-deciding run, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Taijuan Walker will start the opener and was 9-9 with a 3.49 ERA and 146 strikeouts last season. In his career, Walker is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA and 20 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 1-10 in Ryu’s last 11 road starts against a team with a winning record and 17-8 in their last 25 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 division matchups. Arizona is 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 0-5 in Walker’s last 5 starts while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter. The over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Arizona.
One of my fellow writers on here covered the Dodgers yesterday and was 100% right, if it wasn’t for a pair of Joe Panik home runs, the Dodgers would’ve shut out the Giants for the entire opening four game series. However, Arizona is a big step up from this year’s San Francisco Giants and come into this one the more rested team and while the time difference isn’t major, the Dodgers just had to travel after playing on Sunday night, while the D-Backs had the day off on Sunday. I’ll take a shot with the near even money with Arizona at home here.
