We have some American League action between the AL Central and the AL West as the Cleveland Indians take on the Los Angeles Angels in game one of a three game set from Angel Stadium on Monday.
The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back after losing their first series of the season, dropping the rubber match of their three game set with Seattle on Sunday by a final score of 5-4. Edwin Encarnacion led Cleveland by going 2 for 4 with a pair of homers and three RBIs while Bradley Zimmer added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Tribe in the loss while Yonder Alonso went 2 for 4 with a double. Francisco Lindor and Lonnie Chisenhall each added a base hit to round out the offensive output for Cleveland in the losing effort. Trevor Bauer went five innings, giving up a pair of runs on five hits while walking three and striking out seven, not factoring in the decision. Dan Otero took the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Mike Clevinger will start game one and was 12-6 with a 3.11 ERA and 137 strikeouts last season. In his career, Clevinger is 2-0 with a 3.94 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to keep their momentum going after pushing their winning streak to 3 games following a 7-4 win over Oakland to give the Halos their first series win of the year. Andrelton Simmons led the Halos by going for 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, while Jefry Marte, Luis Valbuena and Mike trout each added an RBI and a double, with Marte adding a pair of two-baggers. Justin Upton and Kole Calhoun each had an RBI, while Zack Cozart added a pair of base hits to finish off the offense for the Angels in the victory. Shohei Ohtani gave up three runs on three hits while striking out six over six innings of work for his first win of the season, while Kenyan Middleton recorded a pair of outs in the 9th for his first save of the year. JC Ramirez will start the opener for the Angels and was 11-10 with a 4.15 ERA and 105 strikeouts last season. In his career, Ramirez is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA and 7 strikeouts against the Indians.
Cleveland is 7-0 in Clevinger’s last 7 starts and 45-12 in their last 57 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 5-16 in their last 21 games against the AL Central and 2-5 in their last 7 home games while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. Cleveland is 22-8 in the last 30 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Los Angeles.
All of the trends, including the head-to-head trends point to Cleveland on the road, especially how well the Tribe have played with Clevinger on the mound. However, that was last season, and the Indians didn’t get off to the greatest of starts this year. The Angels have played better offensively, and are the hotter team of the two and even though it’s early in the season, that’s enough for me to side with the plus money with Los Angeles at home.
