The Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins meet Monday in MLB action at Marlins Park.
The Boston Red Sox look to build on their three-game winning streak when they begin another road series. The Red Sox pitching staff has been lights out this season, allowing a combined three runs in their last three games. The Boston Red Sox have also produced a combined 16 strikeouts in their last two games and have won 10 of their last 12 regular season games when allowing three or less runs. Offensively, Xander Bogaerts leads Boston with eight hits and two RBI while Mookie Betts and JD Martinez have combined for seven hits and one RBI. Brian Johnson gets the ball, and he was 2-0 with a 4.33 ERA and 21 strikeouts last season. This will be Johnson’s first career game against the Marlins.

The Miami Marlins look for a statement victory after splitting a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. The Marlins offense has produced 12 runs in their last two games and four or more runs in three of their first four games. The Miami Marlins haven’t played like a team that’s supposed to lose 100-plus games this season, but it’s still extremely early, obviously. Derek Dietrich leads Miami with six hits and three RBI while Brian Anderson and Lewis Brinson have combined for 11 hits an six RBI. Trevor Richards will make his major league debut when he takes the mound. Richards was 14-14 with a 2.52 ERA and 211 strikeouts in his minor league career.
The Red Sox are 2-5 in their last 7 Monday games, 0-4 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series and 5-0 in Johnsons last 5 starts. The Marlins are 3-8 in their last 11 during game 1 of a series, 18-37 in their last 55 vs. American League East and 5-1 in their last 6 interleague games. The Red Sox are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings and the over is 5-1-2 in the last 8 meetings.
While still extremely early in the season, I've been impressed with what I've seen from the Miami Marlins. They went toe-to-toe with a world series contender and are a young team playing with confidence. However, I rarely bet on pitchers who are making their major league debut. I have no idea what to expect from Richards. Give me the Boston Red Sox.
