The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets meet Monday in MLB action at Citi Field.
The Philadelphia Phillies look to get back to .500 after losing two of three to the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies pitching staff has allowed a combined 27 runs in their first three games and allowed 15 runs in Saturday’s loss. The Philadelphia Phillies were a dark horse playoff contender for many, but that won’t be the case if they continue to get peppered and they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Rhys Hoskins leads the Phillies with five hits and three RBI while Cesar Hernandez and Scott Kingery have combined for eight hits and one RBI. Ben Lively gets the ball, and he was 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA and 52 strikeouts last season. Lively is 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA and seven strikeouts in his career against the Mets.

The New York Mets look to build on their 2-1 start after taking two of three from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets scored just one run in Sunday’s loss, but they’ve produced a combined 16 runs in three games, which is over five runs per game, an average that will win a lot of games in the NL East. The New York Mets have won six straight games when scoring more than two runs. Juan Lagares leads the Mets with five hits while Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes have combined for eight hits and five RBI. Matt Harvey gets the ball, and he was 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA and 67 strikeouts last season. Harvey is 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA and 71 strikeouts in his career against the Phillies.
The Phillies are 18-37 in their last 55 Monday games, 29-65 in their last 94 road games and 6-2 in their last 8 vs. a team with a winning record. The Mets are 5-0 in their last 5 home games, 3-7 in their last 10 Monday games and 1-4 in Harveys last 5 starts. The Phillies are 9-20 in the last 29 meetings in New York, 25-55 in the last 80 meetings and the over is 81-39-5 in the last 125 meetings.
We all know the struggles Harvery had last season with injuries and what not, but he's still a talented pitcher when healthy and is a crowd favorite. There's a chance he can turn things around and be a key peice for the Mets this season. Lively had an ERA of 4.06 on the road last season with an allowed batting average of .274. There's also positive signs from the Mets offense early on, as they're off to a hot start. I'll back New York and a pitcher who I think has the ability to get back on track.
