The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics meet Tuesday in MLB action at Oakland Coliseum.
The Texas Rangers need a win to get back on track after a rough 1-4 start to the season. The Rangers simply aren’t putting runs on the board, as they’ve scored six combined runs in their last three games and three or less runs in four of their first five games. Elvis Andrus leads the Rangers with eight hits and two RBI while Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Gallo have combined for 11 hits and three RBI. The Texas Rangers have now lost 11 straight games when scoring less than five runs. Cole Hamels gets the ball, and he was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA and seven strikeouts this season. Hamels is 2-3 with a 4.39 ERA and 33 strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.

The Oakland Athletics look to get back to a .500 record with another solid home victory. The A’s have scored four or less runs in each of their last four games, something you don’t expect from this explosive group, but they’re off to a manageable 2-3 start regardless. Marcus Semien leads Oakland with six hits and one RBI while Matt Chapman and Jed Lowrie have combined for 11 hits and seven RBI. The Oakland Athletics need the bats to wake up before setting out for a tough eight-game road trip. Kendall Graveman gets the ball, and he was 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA and one strikeout this season. Graveman is 4-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 28 strikeouts in his career against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. American League West, 1-4 in Hamels' last 5 starts vs. American League West and 48-22 in Hamels' last 70 starts. The Athletics are 1-4 in their last 5 Tuesday games, 4-0 in Gravemans last 4 home starts and 4-1 in Gravemans last 5 starts. The Rangers are 0-8 in the last 8 meetings in Oakland, 2-8 in the last 10 meetings and the under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Hamels is still a really good pitcher at 34 years old, but the Rangers just aren't hitting the ball, and I'm not going to trust that will change on the road. The Oakland Athletics are a team that I was high on and had them at +700 to make the playoffs. The offense has to wake up for the A's as well, but you have to like that they've found ways to win two games even with cold bats. It's only a matter of time before Oakland puts up some nice numbers in this ballpark. Give me the A's and the cheap price.
