The Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels square off in the rubber match of their three game set from Angel Stadium on Wednesday.
The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back and take the set after being shellacked by a final score of 13-2 in game two on Tuesday. Jose Ramirez’s two-run home run in the first was the lone hit for the Tribe as the Indians only got the other three runners on base by virtue of a walk. Josh Tomlin took the loss, falling to 0-1 after giving up eight runs on eight hits over just three innings of work. Corey Kluber will get the nod for the Tribe in the finale and is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 8 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kluber is 2-2 with a 4.31 ERA and 26 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to keep their momentum going after romping in game two on Tuesday. Rene Rivera led the way with four RBIs on 2 of 4 at the dish with a home run and a double, while Shohei Ohtani belted his first major league homer with three RBIs of his own. Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Luis Valbuena each hit a solo shot while Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a double and Kole Calhoun added a run of his own to round out the scoring for the Halos in the win. Albert Pujols was held off the score sheet, but did go 2 for 4 at the dish as well. Garrett Richards got the win after giving up both Cleveland runs on one hit while walking four and striking out nine over 5.2 innings of work. Tyler Skaggs will start the finale and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. In his career, Skaggs is 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 7-1 in Kluber’s last 8 road starts and 46-14 in their last 60 games overall while the under is 5-1-1 in Kluber’s last 7 starts. Los Angeles is 4-1 in Skaggs’ last 5 starts and 8-19 in their last 27 games against the AL Central while the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 games overall. Cleveland is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
Skaggs looked good in his lone start this season, and the Angels looked good last night and will be the sleeper team to watch out of the AL West this season. However, the Indians are a far better team than what we saw last night, and it’s not often that you get reasonable prices like these with Kluber. Furthermore, Skaggs has gotten rocked in his career against Cleveland, giving up 12 runs in 17.1 innings of work. I’ll gladly take Cleveland here solely on the pitching edge.
