We have some NL West action on the MLB slate on Wednesday night as the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies square off in game three of their four game set from Petco Park.

The Colorado Rockies will look to bounce back after suffering an 8-4 loss at the hands of the Padres in game two on Tuesday. Nolan Arenado and Chris Iannetta tied for the team-high with two RBIs each, with Arenado adding a double while Iannetta went 2 for 4 at the dish. Gerardo Parra added a double of his own, while Trevor Story and starting pitcher Kyle Freeland each had a base hit of their own in the losing effort. Speaking of Freeland, he took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Jon Gray will start game three and is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gray is 4-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 82 strikeouts against San Diego.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies - 4/4/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The San Diego Padres will be looking to build some steam after finally notching their first win of the year with their victory on Tuesday. Christian Villanueva led the way, going 3 for 3 with a trio of home runs and five RBIs, while Freddy Galvis added a pair of RBIs of his own in the win. Hunter Renfroe chipped in a double while Jose Pirela went 2 for 4 at the dish and A.J. Ellis added a base knock of his own to finish off the offense for the Padres in the win. Tyson Ross got the win to improve to 1-0 after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out a pair over six innings of work and Brad Hand notched his first save of the year by closing out the 9th. Clayton Richard will start game three for San Diego and is 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richard is 5-6 with a 5.21 ERA and 84 strikeouts against Colorado.

Colorado is 4-1 in Gray’s last 5 starts against a team with a losing record and 4-10 in their last 14 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. San Diego is 2-10 in their last 12 games overall and 2-7 in their last 9 division matchups while the over is 5-1 in their last 5 home games. Colorado is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.

San Diego and the plus money at home is tempting given that the Padres got the monkey off of their back with their first win and have their ace on the mound for this one. However, I need to see consistent offensive performances like Tuesday’s from San Diego before I can put any sort of faith into the Padres. It’s no secret that the Rockies are a different team away from the thin air at Coors Field, but the Rockies are top to bottom the better team, and I expect Gray to have a stronger second outing here, so I’ll lay the juice with Colorado on the road.
