We close out Thursday’s MLB schedule with a marquee matchup out of the NL Central as the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers kick off a four game set from Miller Park.

The Chicago Cubs will be extremely rested coming into this one after having their finale with the Cincinnati Reds postponed on Tuesday due to inclement weather. The Cubs would’ve been looking for a split after dropping the first game of the set by a narrow 1-0 margin, with the Cubbies notching just two hits as a team in the loss. Javier Baez notched a triple while Ian Haps chipped in a base knock of his own to round out the offense for Chicago in the loss. Tyler Chatwood took the loss after giving up the lone run on four hits while walking six and striking out four over six innings of work. Jon Lester will start game one and is 0-0 with an 8.10 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to rebound after dropping their series with St. Louis, dropping the rubber match by a final score of 6-0 on Wednesday. Jonathan Villar went 2 for 4 while Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and Domingo Santana each added a base hit as none of the Brewers’ five hits went for extra bases in the loss. Jhoulys Chacin took the loss, falling to 0-1 after giving up all six runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking a pair and striking out five over 5.2 innings of work. Brent Suter will start the opener and is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Suter is 1-0 with a 3.14 ERA and 8 strikeouts against the Cubs.

Chicago is 2-10 in their last 12 games against a left-handed starter and 11-4 in their last 15 division matchups while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games following an off day. Milwaukee is 7-0 in Suter’s last 7 starts and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-0 in Suter’s last 4 home starts. Chicago is 4-0 in Lester’s last 4 starts against Milwaukee.

Milwaukee has gotten off to the stronger start of the two and have been money with Suter on the mound dating back to last season. However, with how inconsistent the Cubs have been, you have to think the Cubs are overdue for a breakout performance, and why not now, considering the amount of success the Cubbies have had with Lester on the Mound against the Brewers? Milwaukee at home with plus money is hard to turn down, but getting the low line with the well rested Cubs is enough value for me to bite so I’ll side with Chicago here.
