Baltimore is set to be going with RHP Andrew Cashner for the Thursday game. In his lone start this year, Cashner managed 5.0 innings in a loss and sports a 7.20 ERA.

Coming into the Astros finale, the Orioles’ top hitters were Jonathan Schoop and Adam Jones, each with six hits. In the Wednesday game, Jones whiffed but Schoop had three more hits and a walk.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up a two-game set versus the Rays. New York won Tuesday’s game, then on Wednesday took a big 7-2 victory.

New York is going to roll with Masahiro Tanaka in the Thursday game. In his first start of the season, Tanaka was solid with one run, three hits, eight Ks and 6.0 innings pitched.

Didi Gregorius has been the best hitter for the Yankees in the young season; coming into Wednesday he had eight hits with nine RBI and six runs. In the Wednesday game, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez each went deep for New York, providing a combined six RBI.

The Orioles are 20-48 in their last 68 road games and 4-18 in their last 22 following a loss. Baltimore is also 5-24 in their last 29 overall and 1-5 in their last six versus the AL East.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series and 5-2 in their last seven following a win. New York is also 4-1 in Tanaka’s last five starts and 40-16 in his last 56 home starts.

The Yankees’ modern version of Murderers’ Row has had mixed results so far (though things went pretty well on Wednesday), but New York is getting solid contributions from some of the lesser-heralded players at the plate. On the other side, the Orioles’ issues this year seem to stem from allowing far too many runs, and though Baltimore has a decent offense that’s simply too much to ask. If Tanaka can come out with another good start here and the Yankees’ bullpen (which is supposed to be one of the team’s strengths) doesn’t flush the game down the toilet, New York has a good shot to pay off in this one despite the thick line.
