The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics meet Thursday in MLB action at Oakland Coliseum.
The Texas Rangers could use a feel good victory to rebound from a rough 2-5 start. The Rangers offense continues to come up short, scoring three or less runs in five of their first seven games. The Texas Rangers have now lost 13 straight games when scoring three or less runs. Elvis Andrus leads the Rangers with nine hits and two RBI while Nomar Mazara and Shin-Soo Choo have combined for 15 hits and three RBI. Martin Perez gets the ball, and he was 13-12 with a 4.82 ERA and 115 strikeouts last season. Perez is 7-7 with a 5.24 ERA and 52 strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.

The Oakland Athletics look for another victory to get back to a .500 record. The Athletics offense finally got on track in Wednesday’s victory, scoring six runs and putting together nine hits. The Oakland Athletics offense is capable of putting up crooked numbers all season, and they’ve won 16 of their last 18 games when scoring more than three runs. Matt Chapman leads the A’s with 10 hits and five RBI while Marcus Semien and Jed Lowrie have combined for 15 hits and six RBI. Daniel Mengden gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA and five strikeouts this season. Mengden is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA and 20 strikeouts in his career against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 1-7 in their last 8 during game 4 of a series, 4-1 in Perezs last 5 road starts and 9-2 in Perezs last 11 starts. The Athletics are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. American League West, 3-9 in Mengdens last 12 home starts and 5-2 in Mengdens last 7 starts. The Rangers are 5-2 in Perezs last 7 starts vs. Athletics, 3-9 in the last 12 meetings and the under is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings.
The Oakland Athletics finally broke through offensively, and that's a good sign of things to come, as this young team can win a lot of games when those bats are picking up. Mengden wasn't good in his opener, but he has pitched well against the Rangers in the past and usually does an OK job of limiting damage. Perez is making his season debut, and he's never been a good pitcher, as he's had an ERA well over four in each of his last four seasons and was allowing a batting average of .290 on the road last season. Oakland should have little trouble scoring runs yet again in this spot. Give me the A's to get another victory.
