Houston Astros vs. San Diego Padres - 4/7/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

For Saturday’s game, the Padres will be bringing out RHP Bryan Mitchell. In his 5.0 innings during his first start this year, Mitchell put up five earned and eight hits in a loss.

Coming into this set, Freddy Galvis led the Padres on eight hits, two runs, a homer and five RBI alongside 11 total bases. On Friday, Jose Pirela put up three hits, two RBI and a run.

Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with RHP Gerrit Cole for Saturday. In his first start this year, Cole put up 7.0 innings with two hits and one earned run.

Jose Altuve led the Astros coming into this series with 12 hits, seven runs and three RBI, while Carlos Correa had nine hits, seven runs and eight RBI. In the Friday game, Altuve managed a hit and Correa had an RBI.

The Padres are 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games and the over is 11-5-2 in their last 18 during game two of a series. The over is also 5-2 in San Diego’s last seven Saturday games and 5-1 in the last six head-to-head meetings of these two teams.

Meanwhile, the Astros are 8-1 in their last nine during game two of a series and 5-2 in the last seven Saturday games. Houston is also 40-16 in their last 56 overall and 46-21 in their last 68 interleague games.

On the surface, this looks like all Astros here, but we know from Friday’s game that anything can happen if Houston goes cold at the plate. Mitchell’s numbers from his first start came out rough, and Cole was sharp in his inaugural outing. Houston’s also got the advantage of a better offense and a home game as well. I’m going Astros for the win.
