The Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers square off in game two of their three game weekend set on Saturday night.
The Toronto Blue Jays will look to keep their momentum going after winning 5 of their last 6 games, including an 8-5 victory over the Rangers on Friday. Russell Martin led the way, going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a solo homer, while Yangervis Solarte belted out a solo shot of his own along with runs from Kendrys Morales, Justin Smoak and Josh Donaldson, who went 2 for 5 at the dish. Devon Travis also went 2 for 4 at the plate to round out the offensive output for the Jays in the win. Marco Estrada ended up with the victory to improve to 1-0 this season, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Roberto Osuna closed out the 9th en route to his 3rd save of the season. Marcus Stroman will start game two and is 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA and 8 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stroman is 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA and 10 strikeouts against Texas.

The Texas Rangers will be looking to turn things around after dropping 6 of their first 9 games of the year, including the series opener on Friday. Shin Too Choo led the team with a pair of RBIs, while Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre each had three hits and an RBI, with Beltre adding a double. Drew Robinson added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Rangers in the loss, while Rougned Odor added a pair of base hits including a double and Joey Gallo chipped in a base hit of his own to round out the offense for the Rangers in defeat. Matt Moore took the loss to fall to 0-2 this season after giving up six runs, five earned, on five hits while walking four over just 3.1 innings of work. Mike Minor will get the nod in game two and is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. In his career, Minor is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 15 strikeouts against Toronto.
Toronto is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter and 5-2 in Stroman’s last 7 starts against the AL West while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall. Texas is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 5-13 in their last 18 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Toronto is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings between these two teams and 15-6 in the last 21 meetings between the two in Texas.
Getting plus money with a home dog is always tempting, but if we’re being honest, this is the best the Blue Jays have looked in over a year, and while Texas has some talent on their team, the Rangers just can’t seem to put it together to equal wins. Stroman doesn’t have the best numbers against Texas and did have his moment in the opener against the Yankees, but I’m more confident in his stuff than I am Minor’s so I’ll lay the juice with Toronto in this spot.
