We have some NL East division action on tap Saturday, as the New York Mets take on the Washington Nationals in game two of their three game MLB set.

The New York Mets will be looking to stay hot with their winning streak currently sitting at 3 after improving to 5-1 with an 8-2 thrashing of the Nats in game one. Jay Bruce led the charge by going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs, while Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes also went yard to round out the scoring for the Mets in the win. Brandon Nimmo added a pinch-hit double, while Asdrubal Cabrera, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Plawecki each tallied a base hit to finish off the offense for the Mets in victory. Jacob DeGrom got the win, improving to 2-0 after giving up both runs, one earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out five. Steven Matz will start game two and is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Matz is 1-2 with a 2.17 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Washington.

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets - 4/7/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals will be looking to snap a 3 game losing streak after their game one loss on Thursday. Anthony Rendon went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the way while Adam Eaton added a two-bagger of his own and Brian Goodwin and Howie Kendrick each chipped in a base knock of their own in the losing effort. Stephen Strasburg took the loss to fall to 1-1 this year after giving up four runs on five hits while walking a pair and striking out six over six innings of work. Gio Gonzalez will start game two and is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzalez is 14-5 with a 2.93 ERA and 132 strikeouts against the Mets.

New York is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 division matchups while the under is 5-1 in Matz’s last 6 road starts. Washington is 5-2 in Gonzalez’s last 7 division starts and 1-5 in their last 6 division matchups while the over is 4-0-2 in their last 6 games overall. Washington is 16-5 in Gonzalez’s last 21 starts against the Mets.

I can understand why the line is as thick as it is, as Gonzalez has been very good in his career against the Mets, almost winning 3 of every 4 starts. However, I’m not laying juice with Washington after how they’ve played during this losing skid. Matz wasn’t amazing in his opener, but he is still a very good pitcher with a hot offense behind him that’s off to a great start. Gotta ride the hot hand in the Mets until it cools off, and getting plus money doesn’t hurt either.
