We have game two of a three game set between the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night in MLB action.

The Cincinnati Reds need a win after losing 7 of their first 9 games to start the year following a 6-5 loss in the series opener on Monday. Tucker Barnhart went 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Scooter Gennett went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Adam Duvall and Billy Hamilton each added runs on the board of their own in the losing effort. Joey Votto went 2 for 4 while Jose Peraza, Phillip Ervin and Cliff Pennington each chipped in a base knock in the loss. Cody Reed went just three innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on four hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Kevin Quackenbush gave the game-deciding run in the bottom of the 8th, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Homer Bailey will take to the bump for game two and is 0-2 with a 4.22 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 1-4 with a 3.97 ERA and 47 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to keep their momentum going after winning 3 of their last 4 games following their series opening win on Monday. Rhys Hoskins went 1 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs, while Scott Kingery and Nick Williams each went yard as well. Carlos Santana went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Maikel Franco added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Phils in the win. Cesar Hernandez also chipped in a base hit of his own in the winning effort for Philadelphia. Ben Lively went 5.2 innings, giving up all five runs on nine hits while walking a pair and striking out seven. Luis Garcia got the win to improve to 1-1 while Hector Neris struck out a pair in the 9th for his first save of the season. Aaron Nola will start game two and is 0-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. In his career, Nola is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 5-17 in their last 22 games overall and 3-7 in Bailey’s last 10 starts while the under is 4-0 in Bailey’s last 4 starts against the NL East. Philadelphia is 2-5 in Nola’s last 7 starts and 30-60 in their last 90 games against the NL Central while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Cincinnati is 3-7 in Bailey’s last 10 starts against Philadelphia and 1-6 in Bailey’s last 7 road starts against Philadelphia.

There’s no doubting that Philadelphia has gotten off to the better start of the two to start the year, but I’m not about to lay this kind of juice with the Phillies. Sure, the Phillies lit up Miami for 20 runs, but it’s not like they’ve been lighting the world on fire. Nola is a solid pitcher and is one of the better arms that the Phillies have to offer, but the Phillies had to claw out a win in the opener and I think Bailey can keep up here so I’ll take a stab at the Reds and the plus money.
