For Wednesday’s matchup, the Mets will be bringing out RHP Zack Wheeler. In his 86.1 innings and 3-7 record this past year, Wheeler had a 5.21 ERA with 81 Ks and 40 BBs.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, the Mets’ leader at the plate was Asdrubal Cabrera with 12 hits, seven runs, a homer and three RBI. On Tuesday, Cabrera ripped a pair of solo home runs.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they’re going with LHP Jarlin Garcia on Wednesday. In his 10.0 innings and 1.80 ERA this year, Garcia has eight Ks and four walks.
Derek Dietrich led the Marlins coming into the Tuesday game with his 14 hits, four runs, one homer and four RBI. On Tuesday, Dietrich had a pair of hits and two runs.
The Mets are 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games and 8-18 in their last 26 during game three of a series. New York is also 4-1 in Wheeler’s last five Wednesday starts and 1-4 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 1-5 in their last six Wednesday games and 3-7 in their last 10 during game three of a series. The over is 2-0-2 in Miami’s last four Wednesday games and 8-1-2 in their last 11 during game three of a series.
While the Yankees are languishing in the despair of an ugly record right now, the Mets own the New York baseball world. Conversely, no one is expecting much out of Miami as they put together a rebuild bid (again). That said, Garcia has looked pretty decent so far this year, and if he can keep the Mets’ bats quiet Miami has a reasonable shot to take this game. Do I think that will happen? Probably not, but the potential payoff is worth taking a risk on the Marlins here.
